What is happening
Since 1 January 2026 the position of makers and performing artists in copyright contracts has been strengthened. An exclusive licence no longer needs a deed but does need a written agreement (email or digital signature counts). A collectively negotiated fee is presumed reasonable, and if a work is not exploited the maker can terminate the agreement without first proving a breach.
